A.M. Best Affirms “A” Rating of the NORCAL Group
A.M. Best Company, the world’s oldest insurance rating service, has affirmed an “A” (Excellent) rating for the NORCAL Group of companies, which includes Medicus Insurance Company of Austin, Texas, PMSLIC Insurance Company of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and NORCAL Mutual Insurance Company in San Francisco, California. NORCAL Mutual has held an “A” rating for nearly 30 years.
Over the past several years, NORCAL Mutual Insurance Company and its coalition partners have advocated for legislation that would maintain the status quo in determining the standard of care in medical liability lawsuits. We are pleased to report that such language is now included in the bipartisan bill aimed at fixing the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) system.
One of the requirements of Medicare’s Electronic Health Records Incentive Program is that Eligible Professionals (EPs) must demonstrate Meaningful Use of Certified Electronic Health Record Technology (CEHRT) by 2014 or face Medicare penalties starting in 2015.
NORCAL Board Director Receives an Emmy
We would like to congratulate one of our board members, Scott C. Syphax, on his recent Emmy. Mr. Syphax received an individual Emmy for his work as the executive producer and host on the Emmy Award winning public television show, Studio Sacramento. The Emmy was awarded in the interview/discussion-program/special category for the human trafficking episode. Along with Mr. Syphax, other members at the station received individual Emmys: David Lowe, executive producer; Alice Yu, producer/director; and Marinda Johnson Gorman, associate producer. Congratulations to all on your Emmys.
